Beware of Brokers:
Unlike many wildlife control services advertised online, Wildlife Control Specialist LLC is not a franchise. We are a New Jersey company providing customized and permanent solutions to New Jersey homeowners and businesses.
When you research your options for wildlife control, please be aware that many companies advertising these services online are nothing more than out of state brokers or booking agents.
Broker sites, do not have a local presence and, instead, farm out leads to others who may or may not have the knowledge, experience and reputation represented on the website. This is similar to the concept of 1-800-Flowers, in which you place an order online, and an unknown florist in the area is booked to handle your arrangement. This system may be efficient and harmless for ordering a pretty bouquet, but having a dearth of information regarding wildlife control services can have some serious consequences.
Be sure to thoroughly check out the credentials and background of a wildlife control company, because brokers will often refer customers to pest control companies and exterminators – or even general contractors – who don’t have the appropriate expertise to solve your wildlife issues.
Other potential warning signs:
- Inflated Inspection Costs: Services booked through brokers usually cost $200-250 for an initial inspection, because the broker and the company providing the services are splitting the revenue. Wildlife Control Specialist LLC only charges $99 + tax for an inspection, which can then be applied toward any services we provide to you. Companies using brokers also inflate their prices to pay for the percentage of revenue shared with the Broker.
- Questionable Guarantee: Make sure you fully understand a company’s guarantee, and who is standing behind it (The Broker or the Company to whom they brokered the job). Many companies only offer a one-year guarantee, which does not provide sufficient time to ensure that you are bat free. We provide a two-year guarantee to all customers, and also offer an extended guarantee (for an additional fee).
- Insurance Coverage: In this business Companies that use Brokers are often 1 person entities many of whom do this work on a part-time bases. In this business obtaining appropriate insurance coverage can be difficult and expensive. Who is providing the insurance coverage the Broker or the Company to whom they brokered the job?
- Sub-par Materials: Find out what materials a company will use to keep animals out of your living space. Are the materials sturdy enough to ensure a permanent barrier? What care will be taken to make certain the secured area remains aesthetically pleasing? Wildlife Control Specialist LLC knows that your house is your most valuable asset, and takes a craftsman approach to exclusion and damage repair. We use only the most modern techniques and materials that don’t detract from the appearance and value of your home, but will get the job done.
Pest/Exterminating Company Approaches:
Pest and Exterminating Companies focus their businesses on the “Contractual Recurring” business associated with Bugs and rodents (mice, & rats). When and if a “Wildlife” related opportunity presents itself, they will often take advantage of the business opportunity.
Companies that fall into this category typically do not charge for an inspection. However, they often fail to do a thorough inspection because they :
- Avoid going into attics that don’t have floors
- Avoid getting on a ladder and typically do a ground level visual inspection that often misses upper level entry/exit points
With regard to trapping these companies typically use “Free Standing” Traps versus deploying a “Positive Trap Set” strategy.
The issues associated with setting Free Standing Traps are:
- Healthy animals will avoid going into an even well baited trap.
- They fail to target the specific animal causing the issue and often result in the trapping of “none” targeted animals.
- When a free standing trap is set in an attic.
- It need to be monitored daily by client
- There is no way to insure structure is wildlife free prior to closing up openings being used by wildlife to enter/exit building
Positive Set Traps are installed over the opening being used by the targeted animal.
The benefits associated with this strategy are:
- It targets the specific animal causing the issue.
- In the case of animals that have taken up residence inside a structure like a home they are installed on the outside of the structure making them easy to check.
- By installing the trap over the opening being used by the animal you can insure the structure is wildlife free prior to closing up openings being used by wildlife to enter/exit building
